Kansas has a new state park that has been well worth the wait! Little Jerusalem Badlands officially opened to the public in October 2019 and has been on my “to-hike” list ever since. Located just 18 miles north of Scott City in western Kansas this would make the perfect weekend getaway for some late summer/ early fall adventures.Like an oasis in the desert, the Lake Scott State Park area stands out from the typical High Plains landscape of western Kansas. Situated in a valley carved into the steep bluffs of the Ogallala Formation, the 100-acre lake is surrounded by canyons and natural springs. This park is about 20 minutes north of Lake Scott State Park and 20 minutes west of Monument Rocks. In this 332-acre park, you’ll find a one-mile stretch of towering rock formations. The Campground Host was very helpful explaining the self pay system and advised us to pay one night at a time as there was no refund available. This state park has what California state leadership has totally dropped the ball on - campgrounds that can accommodate our 35' fifth wheel & the amenities what should be provided based on the fees they assess.
